Texas produced 6,656 dental students from 2011 to 2025, second only to California. 70% stayed home, and all of them went to public schools: UTHealth Houston, UT Health San Antonio and Texas A&M each took about 22% of Texans, with Texas Tech adding 4%.

Texas schools are close to a closed shop. Texans filled 94.5% of their seats, the second-highest home share in the country after Mississippi. The 2,009 Texans who left spread across 69 schools, led by Midwestern in Arizona and NYU.
