From 2011 to 2025, 1,080 Alabamians started dental school, 27th in the nation. 71% went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the state's only dental school, so every Alabamian who stayed home went to a public school.
The other 313 scattered across 53 schools in 32 other states. Meharry in Nashville and the University of Louisville were the most popular ways out. Alabama's school, in turn, filled 75% of its seats with Alabamians; Florida (88) and Georgia (68) sent the most outsiders.
